Tom Blomfield

Tom Blomfield is a Professor of Oboe at the Royal Academy of Music and Joint Principal Oboe of the Philharmonia Orchestra. He joined the Academy's faculty shortly after graduating in 2017, studying under Christopher Cowie and Ian Hardwick. His career includes Principal Oboe roles with major UK orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Aurora Orchestra.

Education: Graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (2017). Prior studies at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music with Rachael Pankhurst, alongside membership in National Youth Orchestras of Wales and Great Britain.

Research interests focus on advanced oboe performance techniques, orchestral collaboration, and solo repertoire interpretation. His 2020 concerto debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra's Esa-Pekka Salonen in Richard Strauss’ Oboe Concerto received critical acclaim, signaling a promising solo career trajectory.

Active in commercial film soundtrack recordings and international touring with ensembles like the Academy of St Martin in the Fields across Europe and America.
