Dr. Tom Baugh is the Head of Art at Falmouth University, situating his artistic research at the intersection of art practice, medical humanities, and social sciences. His work explores methods to manifest experiences of disorder through cinematographic projection, performance, and installation art, aiming to inform public health campaigns and reduce stigma in mental health.
- Education: PhD Fine Art (2015), PGCAP (2016), MA Fine Art (2010), BA Fine Art (1999) from the University of Plymouth.
His research focuses on equivalence, mimicry, and diagnosis, often collaborating with medical institutions to address mental health challenges. Recent publications and screenings analyze OCD, self-injury, and identity through interdisciplinary frameworks, blending art with clinical and social sciences.
Scientific awards include the Fine art residency award (2015) at Ocean Studios, Plymouth. He has supervised six research students, including Sally Charlesworth and Jeanne Dodds, and contributes to teaching areas like projection, sound, and installation practices. Professional roles include serving as an External Examiner for the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and membership in the Association for Medical Humanities and Wellcome Trust Early-Career Award Committee.
