Dr. Tolulope Akinwole is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Arts. He earned his PhD in Literary Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2024), along with master's degrees in English Language Linguistics, African Cultural Studies, and Literary Studies from the University of Lagos and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His research coalesces around African literatures, global Black literatures, African screen media, and the intersection of infrastructure and spatial politics in postcolonial contexts. His current book project, Moving Parts: Automobile Aesthetics in Postcolonial Africa, examines literary and artistic representations of public transportation to reorient understandings of urban life in African cities.
Dr. Akinwole is Associate Editor at Africanwriter.com, curating contemporary African and diaspora literatures, and manages Africacartoons.com, an archive of African political cartooning. He is not currently accepting graduate students or postdoctoral fellows.
