Todd Walatka is a Teaching Professor and Assistant Chair for Graduate Studies in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. His work focuses on contemporary Catholic systematic theology, with specializations in Hans Urs von Balthasar, Latin American liberation theology, Vatican II ecclesiology, and theological pedagogy.
Education: Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, M.T.S. from Notre Dame, and undergraduate studies at the University of Dayton.
Research interests include the intersection of liberation theology and Balthasar's theodrama, the theological legacy of Archbishop Oscar Romero, and the pedagogical formation of theology students. He teaches courses such as Foundations of Theology, Introduction to Vatican II, and Theology en español.
His recent publications explore Romero's theology of Catholic social teaching, Balthasar's Christological insights, and the mercy principle in Sobrino's theology. Current projects include a history of Vatican II and a study on Romero's theological witness.
