Dr. Todd Green is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Anatomy within the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine. His research focuses on the comparative and functional anatomy of extinct and extant archosaurs, including birds, non-avian dinosaurs, crocodylians, and pterosaurs. He specializes in studying cranial ornaments like cassowary casques using micro-CT imaging, geometric morphometric analysis, and fieldwork.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences (2020)
- M.S. in Zoology, Colorado State University (2012)
- B.S. in Biology and Zoology with minor in Geology, Colorado State University (2008)
Dr. Green's research examines how anatomical structures in archosaurs evolve and function, particularly in relation to cranial ornaments. He employs advanced imaging and statistical analysis to compare modern birds with extinct species, enhancing understanding of developmental and ecological roles in deep time.
His recent publications highlight studies on cassowary casque ontogeny, cranial suture patterns in birds, and applications of contrast-enhanced CT in wildlife medicine. These works span fields like vertebrate paleontology, comparative anatomy, and physiological adaptation.
- Scientific Awards:
- Society of Vertebrate Paleontology Jackson – School of Geosciences Travel Grant (2019)
- The Company of Biologists – Travelling Fellowship (2019)
- Western Interior Paleontological Society – Karl Hirsch Memorial Scholarships (2019, 2016)
- American Association of Anatomists – Visiting Scholarship (2018)
- Honorary Lifetime Member, American Emu Association (2015)
Dr. Green collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers at New York Tech and international institutions, to bridge gaps between modern and fossil records. He also engages in science outreach and biological art.
