Dr. Todd D. Royer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware's College of Health Sciences. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Biomechanics of Human Motion (KAAP 425), Biomechanics I (KAAP 426), Seminar in Biomechanics (KAAP 687), and Electromyographic Kinesiology (KAAP 688). His office is located in the Health Sciences Complex.
Education:
Dr. Royer holds the following degrees:
- Ph.D. from Arizona State University (1999)
- M.S. from the University of Delaware (1993)
- B.S. from Pennsylvania State University (1987)
Research Focus:
His research investigates biomechanical adaptations in human movement, with emphasis on gait energetics, amputee locomotion, and knee osteoarthritis interventions. His work examines neuromuscular control strategies, joint loading dynamics, and therapeutic approaches for musculoskeletal pathologies. Current projects explore the efficacy of orthotic devices, asymmetrical movement patterns, and sport-specific biomechanics in athletic populations.
Publication Trends:
Dr. Royer's recent articles (2010-2015) demonstrate a consistent focus on lower-extremity biomechanics. Key themes include: neuromuscular responses to perturbations, osteoarthritis intervention strategies, athletic performance analysis (particularly in throwing and running), and diagnostic methods for ankle/knee pathologies. His work integrates motion capture, pressure mapping, and clinical assessments to address functional mobility challenges.
