Dr. Todd A. Curry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), within the College of Liberal Arts. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Western Michigan University (2012). His research focuses on judicial behavior, particularly how methods of judicial selection and retention influence State Courts of Last Resort. Key topics include the impact of selection processes on judicial opinions, tenure, and representation. He has authored/co-authored works in journals such as The Journal of Politics and Justice System Journal, and co-authored the book Creating the Law: State Supreme Court Opinions and the Effect of Audiences (Routledge, 2019).
Dr. Curry teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in constitutional law, judicial politics, and quantitative methods. He serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in Political Science. His research has explored Indigenous peoples’ legal success in state courts, state court Twitter usage, and the effects of audience awareness on judicial writing. He has secured grants, including a National Science Foundation-funded project examining Indigenous peoples and the law.
His recent work includes studies on judicial homestyle through Twitter, the interconnectedness of state high courts’ social media activity, and the political ramifications of opinion content. He frequently presents at academic conferences, focusing on topics like judicial decisions in Indigenous rights cases and strategic writing in state courts.
