Todd B. Marder is a Senior Professor at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany, holding the Chair I of Inorganic Chemistry since 2012. He previously served as Professor and Chair of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Durham (1997–2012) and the University of Waterloo (1985–1997). His academic journey began at MIT (BSc) and UCLA (PhD), followed by postdoctoral work at the University of Bristol and a visiting role at DuPont Central Research.
- Positions: Senior Professor (Würzburg, 2023–2025), Chair I of Inorganic Chemistry (Würzburg, 2012–2023), Honorary Professor (Durham, 2012–2023), and prior roles in Canada, UK, and USA.
Research Focus: His work centers on organometallic chemistry, homogeneous catalysis (particularly borylations and C–H activation), and materials science with applications in optoelectronics and bioimaging. Key themes include fluoroarene-arene interactions, boron-based catalytic intermediates, and luminescent materials.
Scientific Recognition: Awards include the Rutherford Memorial Medal (1995), Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2010), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Award (2010), and fellowships from AAAS, EurASc, and the Royal Society of Chemistry (1997). He has also received multiple JSPS Invitation Fellowships.
Academic Contributions: Marder has published over 440 papers (cited >33,800 times, h-index 101), filed patents, and delivered >440 invited lectures globally. He co-led the Institute for Sustainable Chemistry & Catalysis with Boron at Würzburg and has held visiting professorships across six countries.
