Professor Qing Ye is a distinguished researcher in inorganic chemistry at the University of Würzburg, where he holds the position of Professor of Inorganic Molecular Chemistry. He leads an active research group focused on innovative boron chemistry and has established a strong international reputation in the field of main-group element chemistry.
Prof. Ye received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Fudan University in 2004, followed by Diplom and graduate studies at the University of Würzburg under Prof. H. Braunschweig, completing his Ph.D. in 2012 with the highest distinction (summa cum laude). His academic journey includes postdoctoral research at Würzburg (2012-2014), a DFG-sponsored fellowship at UC Berkeley with Prof. T. Don Tilley (2015), and a DFG Return Fellowship with Prof. T. B. Marder at JMU (2016). He began his independent career as an Associate Professor at the Southern University of Science and Technology (2017-2022) before returning to Würzburg as a full Professor in January 2022.
Prof. Ye's research focuses on the synthesis and investigation of highly strained heterocyclic molecules, the development of boron cluster-functionalized Lewis superacids for applications in catalysis and optoelectronic materials, and the strategic use of boron in secondary coordination sphere engineering. His group has made significant contributions to borirane and borirene chemistry, carborane-fused systems, and novel boron-based Lewis superacids. The Ye Group maintains active collaborations with research groups worldwide, including the Lin Group at HKUST and the Holthausen Group at Uni Frankfurt.
Prof. Ye has received numerous prestigious awards including the National Young Talent Program of China (2016), Peacock Plan Awardee-Category B by Shenzhen Municipal Government (2017), and multiple DFG research fellowships. His research is supported by DFG projects on benzoborirene chemistry and bis(alkynyl)boranes.
The Ye Group actively mentors a diverse team of Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars from around the world. Current group members include Dr. Alexander Matler (Postdoc), Libo Xiang, Leibo Tan, Chenchang Ma, Ajay Bains, Sudipta Parua, and several Master's and Bachelor's students. The group has established state-of-the-art laboratory facilities including multiple glovebox stations for air-sensitive chemistry.
