Professor Toby Bruce leads research in insect chemical ecology at Keele University's School of Life Sciences. His work investigates sustainable pest management strategies for global agriculture, focusing on plant-insect interactions and biological control. With degrees from University College London and Imperial College, Bruce develops ecologically-based solutions to reduce crop losses and pesticide dependence.
Research examines chemical signaling between plants and insects, host location mechanisms, and novel pest management approaches. Current projects include developing push-pull systems for fall armyworm control in Africa and nanotech formulations of plant compounds for crop protection. Publications emphasize sustainable agriculture, chemical ecology, and integrated pest management.
Bruce teaches courses in insect ecology, chemical ecology, and integrated pest management. He mentors students in entomology and sustainable agriculture while serving as Editor-in-Chief of Physiological Entomology.
