Tobias Vogt

Tobias Vogt is a Professor at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, Department of Demography, at the University of Groningen (RUG). He holds the Dr TMA Pai Endowment Chair for Health Demography at Manipal Academy for Higher Education, India, and serves as a Guest Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. His academic journey includes a PhD in Demography from the Max Planck Institute and University of Rostock, an MSc in European Social Policy from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a Diploma in Sociology from the University of Halle.

His research focuses on demography, public health, and aging studies, with particular emphasis on global health systems, aging populations in Sub-Saharan Africa, and intergenerational dynamics. Recent work examines health outcomes in cross-border EU regions, tobacco-related mortality in India, and subjective well-being among older adults in rural Ghana. Vogt’s contributions to peer-reviewed journals include editorial leadership and methodological innovations in demographic analysis.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on 'Population, Health and Place' at the master’s level and 'Healthy Ageing' at the bachelor’s level. Ancillary activities include editorial roles and international collaborations. His research has attracted media attention for insights linking societal generosity to longevity and pension reforms’ impact on life expectancy.
