معرفی
Tobias Stauber serves as a Tenured Scientist at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and holds an Honorary Professorship at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His research group Novel Platforms and Nano-devices for Quantum Simulation and Computation pioneers theoretical investigations into quantum phenomena in low-dimensional materials, with significant contributions to the understanding of emergent properties in van der Waals systems.
His academic journey includes a Diploma in Physics from the University of Göttingen (1998) and a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Heidelberg (2002), followed by postdoctoral work at ICMM-CSIC (2003-2007), a Ciência07 Research Assistant Professorship at the University of Minho (2008-2010), and a Ramón y Cajal Assistant Professorship at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2010-2014).
Stauber's research centers on condensed matter physics in reduced-dimensional quantum materials, specializing in unconventional superconductivity, topological phases, and light-matter interactions. His work leverages the experimental tunability of two-dimensional van der Waals materials—particularly graphene and twisted bilayer systems—to explore magnetic ordering, plasmonic phenomena, and quantum transport. This research bridges theoretical predictions with experimental validation through collaborations with leading nanoscience facilities.
Analysis of his recent publications (2016-2021) reveals a dominant focus on twisted bilayer graphene and moiré heterostructures, examining superconductivity mechanisms, symmetry breaking phenomena, and nanophotonic applications. His work consistently appears in high-impact journals including Nature Communications, Science, and Physical Review Letters, with multiple papers receiving cover features and editor selections for their breakthrough insights into quantum materials.
- Salvador de Madariaga Fellowship (2020) at the University of Regensburg
- Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (2010-2014) competitive research grant
- Ciência07 Fellowship (2008-2010) Portuguese research initiative
As leader of his research group at ICMM, Stauber directs theoretical investigations into quantum simulation platforms while maintaining active collaborations with experimental teams worldwide. His work on plasmonic bands, chiral responses, and marginal Fermi liquids in twisted systems has established critical frameworks for next-generation quantum devices and nanophotonic applications.
