Tobias Helms is a Professor of Civil Law at Philipps-Universität Marburg, specializing in German, European, and international family and inheritance law. His research examines legal challenges in filiation, assisted reproduction, adoption, and civil status registrations. He serves as co-editor for the Zeitschrift für das gesamte Familienrecht (FamRZ) and editorial director for Das Standesamt (StAZ).
Dr. Helms leads the DFG project The Significance of the Shared-Custody Model for Child Wellbeing after Parental Separation or Divorce, collaborating with sociologists at the University of Essen-Duisburg. His work addresses cross-border surrogate motherhood and recognition of foreign court decisions in family law contexts.
