Dr. Tobias Heer is a researcher at the Chair of Communication and Distributed Systems at RWTH Aachen University. His academic work focuses on mobile communications, network security, and distributed systems, with a particular emphasis on the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) and its applications in cooperative networks.
- Education: Diplom-Informatiker (MSc equivalent) in Computer Science from the University of Tübingen (2006), PhD from RWTH Aachen University (2012).
Research interests include end-host mobility, network security, distributed hash tables (DHTs), and security mechanisms for the Internet of Things (IoT). His publications span wireless mesh networks, HIP extensions, and security protocols for collaborative systems.
Recent works highlight trends in cooperative networking, secure identifier resolution, and mobility-aware DHTs, often addressing challenges in Wi-Fi sharing and lightweight authentication.
- Scientific Awards: KuVS Prize for Best Diploma Thesis (2007), FIfF Student Award (3rd place) (2011).
He has advised multiple theses at RWTH Aachen University, including research on protocol orchestration, secure Wi-Fi sharing, and lightweight authentication for HIP. His work is closely tied to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and collaborations in network security standardization.
