Tobias Berg

Tobias Berg is a Professor of Banking at Goethe University Frankfurt, appointed in 2023. He leads the Chair of Banking within the Department of Economics, focusing on financial intermediation, FinTech, and climate finance. Previously, he held professorships at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the University of Bonn, with visiting positions at NYU Stern and the European Central Bank.

Berg holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Technical University of Munich and Humboldt University Berlin, and a Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Marburg. His industry experience includes consulting at The Boston Consulting Group.

His research addresses banking regulation, risk management, and climate-related financial risks. Current projects include analyzing CBDC impacts on payment firms and biodiversity risks in financial systems. He has published extensively in top journals like Journal of Finance and Journal of Financial Economics, with themes spanning credit markets, FinTech innovations, and corporate finance.
