Tjeerd Rudmer De Vries is a Postdoctoral Researcher (Research Fellow) in the Section of Epidemiology at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. His work centers on life course epidemiology, utilizing Danish nationwide registry data to investigate how childhood adversity shapes health, social, and labor outcomes across the lifespan.
Dr. De Vries earned his Ph.D. in 2024 from the University of Groningen with the dissertation The long arm of adversity: an epidemiological study on childhood adversity, adolescent psychopathology and labour market outcomes in young adulthood. His methodological expertise includes causal mediation analysis, longitudinal modeling, and registry-based cohort studies.
His research examines critical pathways linking childhood adversity to mental health disorders, educational disruption, social benefit dependency, and labor market exclusion. Recent work leverages the DANLIFE cohort to analyze trajectories of adversity, NEET status (not in education, employment, or training), and cross-system utilization in Denmark. He employs advanced statistical techniques to identify modifiable mediators like adolescent psychopathology and school engagement.
2025 publications reveal a strong focus on population-level interventions, including simulations of poverty reduction impacts and analyses of health/social/justice system interconnections. His work appears in high-impact journals like The Lancet Public Health and Social Science & Medicine, emphasizing policy-relevant findings from Denmark's unique registry infrastructure.
As part of the DANLIFE research group, Dr. De Vries collaborates extensively with epidemiologists, social scientists, and public health researchers across Danish institutions. His current projects investigate childhood adversity dynamics in high-risk populations and lifelong implications of early-life experiences, contributing to evidence-based social and health policies.
