Professor Strandberg-Larsen's research investigates how early life conditions affect fetal, child, and adolescent health and well-being. Her primary focus areas include reproductive epidemiology, life-course epidemiology, and the relationship between prenatal exposures and neurodevelopmental and mental health outcomes. She utilizes data from the Danish National Birth Cohort and nationwide registries to examine eating disorders, mental health trajectories, and the impact of early life exposures on long-term health outcomes. Her work bridges epidemiological methodology with practical public health applications.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on longitudinal cohort studies examining mental health outcomes in children and adolescents, with particular attention to eating disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, and the impact of socioeconomic factors. The research consistently leverages Denmark's comprehensive registry data alongside prospective birth cohort information, showing methodological sophistication in handling complex longitudinal datasets and examining causal pathways in child health.
Professor Strandberg-Larsen has secured significant research funding as principal investigator, including grants from Centre for Childhood Health, Sapere Aude, and Horizon2020. She has supervised over 20 bachelor students, 26 master students, 15 PhD students, and 4 postdocs. Her institutional responsibilities include serving on the Faculty Board and leading graduate education programs.
Her research leadership extends to international collaborations through projects like ATHLETE, TEMPO, and LifeCycle, demonstrating her prominence in European epidemiological research networks focused on early life exposures and lifelong health trajectories.
