Titas Dutta, PhD, is affiliated with the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University. She holds roles including Teaching Assistant (2023) at the Centre for Integrative Studies in General Sciences (College of Natural Sciences), Graduate Fellow (2023-24) in the Scholarship in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning program (Lyman Briggs College and Graduate School), and Instructor for CSUS 200 and CSUS 215 courses (2023-2022). Her research focuses on land acquisition, displacement, gendered access to land, and institutional roles in natural resource management, particularly in post-colonial India. She holds an MA in Economics from the University of Hyderabad (2018).
Research Interests: Titas’ work examines socio-economic conflicts arising from land dispossession, environmental justice, and globalization’s impact on land-use policies. She analyzes how development initiatives exacerbate land grabs and marginalize local communities, with a gendered perspective on resource ownership.
Publications: Her 2022 paper in Economic and Political Weekly explores land dispossessions in India, while an earlier 2017 study addresses natural gas dependency in India’s economy.
Teaching & Fellowships: She has taught courses in community sustainability and participated in teaching excellence programs. Her academic background includes economics with a focus on resource management.
