Tipton Pinkard is the Alice Hamilton Professor of Learning Sciences at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy (SESP), with a courtesy appointment in Human Development and Social Policy. A leading scholar in learning ecosystems and educational equity, she focuses on connecting youth to opportunities through innovative community programs.
Educated at Stanford University (BS in Computer Science) and Northwestern (MS Computer Science/PhD Learning Sciences), her career bridges technology, education, and community development. She co-founded the Digital Youth Network (DYN) and YOUmedia, national models for youth empowerment through digital media. Her work emphasizes equitable access to STEAM education via platforms like Cities Learn and STEAMville.
Pinkard’s research integrates data-driven approaches to map community resources, ensuring underserved populations benefit from educational ecosystems. Honored with fellowship roles at the Institute for Policy Research and the National Academy of Education, her impact spans academia, policy, and grassroots initiatives.
