Tip Meckel

Dr. Tip Meckel is a Research Professor at the Bureau of Economic Geology, Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on geologic carbon storage, particularly in offshore regions like the Gulf of Mexico, leveraging high-resolution 3D seismic technology. He leads initiatives to assess CO2 sequestration potential and develops monitoring techniques using seismic data.

Advising & Grants: Supervised numerous graduate students and postdocs, including Hailun Ni (2022–2024) and Luca Trevisan (2018–2020). Active in DOE-NETL-funded research, including the Gulf of Mexico storage assessment project (2009–2021). Current grants focus on offshore CCS and fluid flow modeling.

Labs/Teams: Gulf Coast Carbon Center (GCC) and High-Resolution 3D Seismic (P-Cable) Center. Collaborates with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and U.S. federal agencies on CCS policy and technology.
