Tineke Abma is Professor of Participation of Older People at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), affiliated with the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. She concurrently serves as Executive Director of Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing. Her work focuses on strengthening older adults' social participation and patient-centered healthcare through participatory research methods.
Education: Nurse trained, PhD in Health Policy (Erasmus University Rotterdam). Previous roles include Associate Professor at Maastricht University and Full Professor of Participation & Diversity at Amsterdam UMC. She co-founded the Centre for Client Experiences and School for Participation.
Research interests center on ethical care practices, aging populations, and inclusive healthcare systems. Notable contributions include over 150 peer-reviewed articles and books like Participatory Research for Health and Social Well-Being.
Awards: Crebolder Award (2007), ASPASIA Laureate (2013). Active in professional networks including Scientific Council of Institute GAK and Waardenwerk Foundation.
