Tina Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research bridges protein folding, function, and synthetic biology, with a focus on addressing challenges in biotechnology and human disease.
- Education: B.S. (Caltech, 2009), Ph.D. (Yale, 2015), Postdoctoral Fellow (Harvard, 2015–2019)
Her lab investigates:
- Engineering molecular chaperones to improve protein expression and rescue disease-associated misfolded proteins
- Optimizing Rubisco, a critical enzyme in photosynthesis, constrained by folding limitations
- Developing robust sensors and gene circuits for synthetic biology and antibiotic screening
Prioritized keywords include Protein Engineering, Molecular Chaperones, and Synthetic Biology. Recent work spans applications in neurodegenerative disease research, agricultural biotechnology, and drug discovery.
Scientific Awards:
- NSF GRFP awarded to student Jackson Wysocki
- PPG Travel Grant awarded to student Linwei Yang
The Wang Lab has welcomed graduate student Brian Flood and published multiple high-impact studies in Nature Chemical Biology and the Journal of Experimental Botany in 2025.
