Tin-Shi Tam is the Charles T. & Ivadelle Cobb Cownie Professor of Music and University Professor at Iowa State University, serving as University Carillonneur and Chair of the Keyboard Division. She holds a DMA in Organ (Church Music) from the University of Michigan (1994), an MS in Arts Management from Durham University (1986), an MA in Organ Performance from the University of Wales (1985), and a BA in Music from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (1984).
Her expertise spans carillon and organ performance, music education, and historical music adaptation. She has performed globally, including at the Festival International de Carillon en Côte d’Or, the World Carillon Federation Congress, and the Hong Kong Cultural Center. Her research includes carillon-orchestra collaborations and bell music in Chinese culture.
Notable achievements include the 2023 University Professor distinction for transformative contributions to Iowa State, the 2020 ISU Alumni Impact Award, and the 2004 CD release The Bells of Iowa State. She actively promotes carillon through masterclasses, lectures, and board roles with organizations like the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA).
