Timothy Stoelinga

Dr. Timothy Stoelinga is an Instructor and Director of the Center for Science and Math Education (CSME) at Loyola University Chicago. He holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois (1991), M.Ed. from Loyola University Chicago (2000), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2007). His work focuses on equitable mathematics education, curriculum design, and fostering positive identities among underrepresented STEM learners. He has led district-level mathematics programs in Chicago and Boulder, Colorado, and contributed to research-based curriculum projects at UIC's Learning Research Institute.

Research Interests:

Dr. Stoelinga investigates how curricular tools and teacher inquiry programs enhance mathematics education across PK-12 and undergraduate levels. He emphasizes equity, participation, and identity development, particularly for underrepresented groups. His design-based research focuses on creating scalable programs to improve teaching practices and student engagement.

Advising & Grants:

Prior to CSME, he designed research-based curricula at UIC's Learning Research Institute. His work has been supported by grants focused on STEM education equity. He currently oversees Loyola’s math education programs, integrating teacher training and community outreach.
