Dr Timothy Stanley is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle's School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences, where he also serves as Deputy Head of School Teaching and Learning (2024-26). His research focuses on correcting misconceptions about religion, politics and ethics through materialist methodologies, with recent books addressing deliberative democracy (2022) and secularisation (2015).

Research explores intersections of religious cognition with democratic theory and technological change, particularly examining how religion interacts with media technologies from historical and contemporary perspectives. Key interests include deliberative democracy in pluralist societies, extended mind theory applications to religious studies, and ethical implications of emerging technologies.
Publications show consistent focus on religious-political interfaces, with recent work examining the materiality of religious cognition and democratic engagement. Article themes demonstrate evolution from theological metaphysics toward applied political philosophy and empirical studies of religious practice.
