Timothy S. Brophy is a Professor of Music Education at the University of Florida's School of Music. He previously served as Assistant Dean for Research, Technology, and Administrative Affairs in the College of the Arts (2009–2011) and as the university’s inaugural Director of Institutional Assessment (2011–2022). His expertise spans institutional effectiveness, higher education assessment systems, and music pedagogy.

Brophy’s research focuses on assessment frameworks in music education and institutional accreditation. He led the University of Florida to receive the 2020 Excellence in Assessment designation from AAC&U, APLU, and NILOA. He is a founding editor of the Journal of Assessment in Higher Education and author of 14 books, including the seminal Assessing the Developing Child Musician.
Awards include the Disney American Teacher Award (1998) and the 2022 University of Florida Presidential Medallion. He has conducted workshops globally on assessment systems and accreditation.
Brophy advises students and leads initiatives in institutional assessment. He co-founded the International Symposia on Assessment in Music Education (ISAME) and chairs ISME's Assessment Special Interest Group.
