Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe OP serves as an Official Fellow and Lector at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford, and remains an active member of the Las Casas Institute Advisory Board. Ordained in 1971, he previously served as global Master of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) from 1992 to 2001 and was elevated to Cardinal by Pope Francis in December 2024.
His academic formation includes studies in Paris under Yves Congar and at the University of Oxford, where he later received an honorary Doctor of Divinity. His theological work spans decades of engagement with Catholic doctrine and contemporary faith challenges.
Radcliffe's research centers on making Christian theology accessible to modern audiences, with emphases on spirituality, moral theology, and ecclesial identity. His writings explore the intersection of faith with social issues, liturgical practice, and personal vocation, characterized by pastoral sensitivity and intellectual rigor.
His publications reveal consistent thematic development from foundational vocation studies through Eucharistic theology to contemporary dialogues on faith and doubt. The works demonstrate increasing engagement with global religious challenges while maintaining focus on core Christian mysteries and sacramental life.
Key honors include the 2007 Michael Ramsey Prize for theological writing. He holds honorary doctorates from Oxford and twelve other institutions worldwide, including Fribourg, Georgetown, and the Angelicum, recognizing his contributions to theological scholarship.
Radcliffe's institutional leadership includes directing the Las Casas Institute (2014-2016) and founding Dominican Volunteers International during his tenure as Master of the Order. His global influence extends to establishing Franciscan-Dominican UN offices and serving as Consulter for the Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace.
He maintains active involvement with the Las Casas Institute as Advisory Board member, contributing to its mission of integrating Catholic social teaching with contemporary justice issues. His ongoing work bridges academic theology with practical ecclesial engagement across multiple continents.
