Timothy R. Long

Dr. Timothy R. Long is a Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He holds academic appointments within the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. His career spans over two decades in anesthesiology education, residency program leadership, and graduate medical education administration. Dr. Long has served as Program Director for Mayo's Anesthesiology residency program and chairs multiple educational committees including the Anesthesiology Education Committee and the Graduate Education Committee for Surgery and Surgical Specialties.

Education: MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine (1994), BS in Biology from University of Michigan (1990). Completed residency and internship training at Mayo Clinic and Oakwood Hospital.

Research interests focus on medical education innovation, competency-based assessment, and residency program development. He has led initiatives in curriculum design, resident well-being, and educational technology integration. Dr. Long's work has been recognized through numerous awards including the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award (2023) and ASA-SEA Distinguished Educator Award (2022).

Professional involvement includes leadership roles in Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors (past-president), American Society of Anesthesiologists, and multiple national committees related to graduate medical education accreditation and curriculum standards.
