Timothy P. Lodge is a Regents Professor, Distinguished McKnight University Professor, and Prager Chair in Macromolecular Science at the University of Minnesota. He holds appointments in the Department of Chemistry and is affiliated with the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science and the Materials Research Science & Engineering Center. His research focuses on polymer nanostructures, self-assembly processes, and advanced materials with applications in biomedicine, energy, and environmental sustainability.
Key research areas include: polymer ion gels, micelle equilibration, thermogelation of cellulose ethers, polyolefin blends, and glycopolymer-DNA complexes for gene delivery. His work employs advanced analytical techniques such as scattering methods, microscopy, and rheology to study molecular-level dynamics and structure-property relationships.
- Awards: Regents Professor, Distinguished McKnight Professorship, Prager Chair
- Labs: Located in Smith Hall (10C for lab staff, 235 for office)
Current projects involve collaborations with researchers like Frank Bates, Marc Hillmyer, and Dan Frisbie, exploring topics from ionic liquid-based materials to polymer matrices for controlled release systems. Students under his mentorship are actively involved in these interdisciplinary projects.
