Professor Timothy Nichol is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Society and Culture at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), having previously served as Dean of the Liverpool Business School and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Business and Law. He holds a PhD in Management from the University of York and a BA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, and is a qualified Chartered Accountant with fellowships in the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Chartered Management Institute, and Royal Society of Arts.
His research spans two major domains: corporate governance, particularly in family businesses and power dynamics across generations, and climate change impacts on transportation systems. He has published extensively on governance codes, board power relations, and the role of government in corporate oversight, as well as on climate adaptation frameworks for rail and road infrastructure.
His recent publications (2018–2024) reveal a strong interdisciplinary trend, merging management science with environmental risk assessment, particularly in transportation resilience under climate stress. This reflects a growing focus on sustainable development and infrastructure planning, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
Professor Nichol has held numerous external professional roles, including:
- Non-Executive Director at Justships Limited
- Resident Advisor for the UK Know How Fund and DFID in Ukraine and Poland
- Trustee and Judge for Education Practice Awards
- Member of the Digital and Creative Board and Citywide Strategy Group for Fairness
He has jointly supervised PhD research on climate adaptation in transport, corporate governance in Russia, and investor behavior in Malaysia. While no specific grants are listed, his involvement in government advisory roles and international development projects indicates significant project leadership and funding engagement. He is also associated with professional bodies such as the European Corporate Governance Institute and has contributed to editorial and accreditation panels (e.g., EFMD’s EPAS).
Though no formal lab or research center is mentioned, his collaborative work with researchers like T. Wang and Z. Qu on climate-transport projects suggests active participation in interdisciplinary research teams focused on sustainability and infrastructure resilience.
