Dr. Timothy May is a Professor of Central Eurasian History and Associate Dean of the College of Arts & Letters at the University of North Georgia. His expertise spans the Mongol Empire, Islamic history, and the Crusades. He has authored/edited 6 books and over 30 articles, and consults for documentaries like National Geographic's Origins and EBS's The Secret of the Super Powers. Currently, he edits Mongolian Studies: The Journal of the Mongolia Society.
Education: Ph.D. in History (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2004), M.A. in Central Eurasian Studies (Indiana University, 1996), B.A. in History and Anthropology (The College of William and Mary, 1993).
Research focuses on Mongol military strategy, nomadic empires, and comparative world history. His work highlights steppe warfare tactics, legitimization of authority, and the Mongol Empire's global impact.
Publications include The Mongol Conquests in World History (2012), Encyclopedia of the Mongol Empire (2016), and edited volumes such as The Mongols and Post-Mongol Asia (2016). Recent articles analyze Kublai Khan's naval strategies, Mongol expansion limits, and cultural exchanges across Eurasia.
