Timothy Lash is a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Epidemiology and holds an affiliation as Associate Director of Population Sciences at the Winship Cancer Institute. His expertise spans cancer surveillance, molecular predictors of treatment efficacy, and epidemiologic methods like bias analysis and Bayesian approaches.
Dr. Lash earned a B.S. from MIT, an M.P.H. and D.Sc. from Boston University's School of Public Health. He co-authored seminal textbooks including Modern Epidemiology (4th ed.) and Applying Quantitative Bias Analysis to Epidemiologic Data (2nd ed.). His research focuses on improving methodologies for observational studies, particularly addressing confounding and misclassification biases.
Key research interests include cancer recurrence prediction, late-onset treatment effects, and application of advanced statistical techniques. Recent work emphasizes bias analysis frameworks, validation studies, and real-world evidence applications. He has contributed to studies on breast cancer outcomes, pharmacogenomics, and disparities in cancer mortality.
His articles often explore methodological innovations in epidemiology, with recent trends addressing bias quantification, genetic-phenotype interactions in cancer therapies, and validation strategies for observational data. Notable collaborations include work on rotavirus vaccine efficacy, transgender health outcomes, and drug safety in chronic diseases.
Dr. Lash has served as Past-President of the Society for Epidemiologic Research. His work bridges methodological rigor with practical public health applications, particularly in oncology and chronic disease management.
