Timothy Lane Grey is a Professor and Interim Assistant Dean at the University of Georgia's Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, based at the Tifton Campus. His research focuses on herbicide dissipation, weed physiology, and crop rotation strategies. He has authored/co-authored over 150 refereed articles, 250 conference papers, and 10 book chapters. As an editor of Peanut Science and associate editor of Weed Science, he contributes significantly to academic discourse. Key awards include the Coyt T. Wilson Distinguished Service Award (2019) and Fellow status with the American Peanut Research and Education Society (2020). His teaching involves graduate students in weed science and pesticide management.
Research interests span herbicide behavior in soils and mulches, rotational crop systems, and physiological responses of crops/weeds to herbicides. Notable collaborations include studies on glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth and indaziflam tolerance in pecan and olive orchards. He leads projects on seed quality, weed management in vegetables, and methyl bromide alternatives.
His advisory roles include serving as Associate Head of the Department and contributing to grants on herbicide efficacy and crop resilience. Ongoing work includes exploring seed germination under thermal gradients and herbicide carryover effects in rotational crops.
