معرفی
Timothy John Hobley is an Associate Professor in Fermentation and Purification at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is affiliated with the Research Group for Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining, where he conducts research in fermentation physiology, downstream processing, and sustainable bioprocesses. His work is applied at both lab and pilot scales, with a focus on industrial biotechnology and food sustainability.
Research Interests: His primary research areas include fermentation technology in fungi such as Trichoderma and Aspergillus, bioethanol production, single-cell protein, magnetic adsorbents for protein purification, immobilized enzymes, and beer brewing. He applies these in the context of circular economy and waste valorization, particularly using agricultural byproducts like spent grain and sugar beet pulp.
Recent Research Trends: His recent publications highlight a strong focus on extracting high-value proteins from brewers' spent grain, developing fermentation media from alfalfa residues, ensuring food safety in beer, and engineering mycelium-based meat alternatives. These works reflect a consistent trajectory toward sustainable food systems, green technologies, and bioprocess innovation.
- Scientific Awards: No awards mentioned in the provided text.
Advising and Grants: He currently supervises 4 PhD students and 3 postdocs, with past supervision of 7 PhDs and 2 postdocs. His projects are funded by diverse sources including Novozymes, EU Framework Programs (6th and 7th), Danish High Technology Foundation, Nordic Energy Research, and private companies like Grundfors. He has also served as censor for over 8 PhD theses internationally and supervised more than 30 undergraduate and master’s theses, often in collaboration with Danish industry.
Labs and Teams: He leads research within the Microbial Biotechnology and Biorefining group at DTU Food, contributing to projects like GRAINPEP (protein extraction from spent grain) and ApplePom (apple pomace utilization). His team integrates bioprocessing, fermentation, and downstream technologies to develop sustainable food and industrial products.
