Timothy Higgins is a Professor of Trombone at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Principal Trombone of the San Francisco Symphony since 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Northwestern University. A renowned performer, composer, and educator, Higgins has performed with leading orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. His compositional works include the Concerto for Trombone premiered in 2021 and arrangements for the National Brass Ensemble. He has been composer-in-residence at the Music Academy of the West and founder of 415Music publishing.
Education highlights include faculty roles at Northwestern University, Aspen Music Festival, and Pacific Music Festival, alongside masterclasses globally. Awards include the Robert Marsteller Competition and Tanglewood’s Grace B. Upton Award. His recordings include Stage Left and Underground series. Teaching emphasizes reverence for musical tradition and technical mastery.
