Timothy Hannigan is an Associate Professor and the Father Edgar Thivierge Chair in Canadian Business at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management. He holds a B.A. (Hon.) from Queen’s University, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
Research interests: His work focuses on the early stages of markets, fields, and ecosystems, examining their cultural and material development. Key areas include blockchain governance, generative AI ethics, institutional theory, organizational theory, and topic modeling. He explores how organizations navigate uncertainty through “provisional knowledge” and studies epistemic risks in AI adoption.
Publications and grants: His research appears in top journals like Academy of Management Review and Strategic Management Journal. He leads an SSHRC Insight Grant (2022–2026) on blockchain entrepreneurship and received the Xerox Canada Faculty Fellowship (2022).
