Timothy Emmons is a Lecturer of Music at Colorado Mesa University, specializing in String and Electric Bass. He also holds adjunct roles at Occidental College, University of Redlands, University of California Riverside, Cal State University Los Angeles, and Azusa Pacific University. His primary responsibilities include teaching Jazz Ensemble conducting, Electric Bass Guitar, Double Bass, and courses in Music Theory, Counterpoint, and Odd Meter Basslines. He serves as Director of Commercial Music Combos and is a member of the bass sections of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and Redlands Symphony Orchestra.
Emmons holds a Master of Music (MM) in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. His research interests span jazz pedagogy, forensic musicology, and popular music history. He has authored Odd Meter Bass (Alfred Music) and co-authored Fretboard Roadmaps (Hal Leonard), while contributing to scholarly works like The Funkmasters: The Rhythm Sections of James Brown and articles for Bass Player magazine.
As a freelance musician, he has contributed to over 300 film, television, and recording projects, including Mission: Impossible series, Star Trek XI, and video game soundtracks like Halo and Bioshock2. He has collaborated with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, and Rod Stewart, and performed in major theatrical productions like Curtains and Ragtime. Emmons is a sought-after forensic music expert, having provided testimony in over 30 copyright cases involving Taylor Swift, Eminem, and others.
