Timothy Caulfield is a Professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta, holding the Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Policy. He serves as Research Director of the Health Law Institute and contributes to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s COVID-19 Impact Committee, focusing on evidence-based strategies to combat health misinformation.
His research critically examines health law, public policy, and science communication, with specialization in debunking myths around stem cells, alternative medicine, celebrity health trends, and diet culture. This interdisciplinary work bridges legal frameworks, public health initiatives, and media literacy to address how pop culture influences health behaviors and beliefs.

He currently leads an interdisciplinary project mapping COVID-19 misinformation landscapes while developing legal/policy tools to counter false health narratives. Additionally, he hosts the award-winning documentary series A User’s Guide to Cheating Death, broadcast in over 60 countries, and has authored three national bestsellers exploring health anxiety and scientific misinformation.
