Bernard Duhaime is a Professor of International Law at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and a specialist in the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights. He serves as President of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, contributing to global human rights advocacy for over two decades. His work spans collaborations with international organizations, states, and Indigenous rights groups, along with founding UQAM's internationally recognized International Human Rights Defense Clinic (CIDDHU).
Research Focus: His expertise includes pandemic-related human rights challenges, the prohibition of discrimination, rights of vulnerable populations, access to information, and health/housing rights. He currently leads a project examining international human rights law during the COVID-19 pandemic, supported by UQAM and New York University.

- Canada-US Fulbright Visiting Chair in Public Diplomacy
- Visiting Fellowships at Harvard, European University Institute, and University of Palermo
Grants & Collaborations: He is part of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s COVID-19 Impact Committee and has advised Indigenous rights groups, international organizations, and human rights defenders globally.
Labs & Teams: Founded and directed the International Human Rights Defense Clinic at UQAM, a model initiative for academic human rights engagement.
