Timothy Bays is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame's Department of Philosophy, within the College of Arts and Letters. He holds dual Ph.D.s in Mathematics and Philosophy from UCLA. His research focuses on Logic, Philosophy of Logic, and Philosophy of Mathematics, with additional interests in Metaphysics and Epistemology. Bays has held academic positions at Yale University and the University of Chicago as a Mellon Fellow. He has contributed to areas such as Skolem's Paradox, model theory, and the philosophy of mathematical realism.
Education: Ph.D. in Philosophy and Mathematics from UCLA (2000 and 1994), B.A. in Philosophy and Mathematics from Northwestern University (1988).
Research Interests: Explores foundational questions in logic and mathematics, including the implications of Skolem's Paradox, model-theoretic approaches, and the philosophical underpinnings of mathematical realism. His work bridges formal logic and philosophical analysis.
Publications: Includes articles on topics such as Putnam's models, Skolem's paradox, and reviews of key texts in the philosophy of mathematics. He has presented at institutions like Oxford University and the Association for Symbolic Logic meetings.
