Timothy Ayers is a Professor of History of Art at the University of York, where he has built his entire academic career since 2005. He previously served as Co-Director of the Centre for Medieval Studies (2020-2023) and has been instrumental in establishing York as a leading institution for medieval studies in the UK.
Professor Ayers specializes in Medieval art and architecture, with particular expertise in the History of stained glass. His research focuses on the study and restoration of ancient and medieval glass, making significant contributions to the field of digital humanities as it applies to art historical research. He is internationally recognized for his work on stained glass windows and their historical context.
