Timothy Alborn is a Professor of History at Lehman College (CUNY) since 2009 and teaches in the CUNY Graduate Center’s History Ph.D. Program. He previously served as Chair of Lehman’s History Department (2005-2009) and Dean of Arts and Humanities (2009-2012). His academic background includes a Ph.D. and BA (summa cum laude) from Harvard University’s History of Science Department.
- Research focuses on British economic and cultural history, particularly intersections of business, insurance, and Victorian-era modernity.
- Key publications include studies on life insurance, gold’s cultural/economic roles, and corporate governance.
His recent work explores alchemy in Victorian culture and colonial gold mining in India. Alborn has received prestigious fellowships, including the ACLS Charles Ryskamp Fellowship (2004-2005) and NEH Fellowship (2001). He mentors graduate students and contributes to academic governance through committee roles at CUNY and Harvard. Beyond academia, he founded Harriet Records and Incite! fanzine, reflecting his interdisciplinary engagement with music and culture.
