Timon Beyes is Professor of Sociology of Organization and Culture at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, where he holds a professorship within the Faculty of Cultural Studies. He serves as Director of the Centre for Digital Cultures and is affiliated with the DFG Research Training Group 'Cultures of Criticism.' Beyes maintains an active research profile with 132 publications to date and has participated in 207 academic activities, demonstrating ongoing scholarly engagement.
Professor Beyes' research spans organizational sociology, cultural sociology, and digital media studies, with particular expertise in digital cultures, culture and space, education, entrepreneurship, and net culture. His work integrates theoretical frameworks from media studies, organization theory, and cultural analysis to examine contemporary phenomena in digital society. His research interests reflect an interdisciplinary approach that bridges sociology, media studies, and organizational theory.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on color sociology, organizational atmospheres, digital capitalism, and counterpublics in authoritarian contexts. The work demonstrates a consistent interest in the intersection of material culture, visual phenomena, and organizational processes, particularly as they manifest in digital environments. Beyes' scholarship often examines how digital technologies reshape social organization and cultural practices.
As an academic leader, Beyes serves on the University Senate (since 2020) and directs the MA program in Culture & Organization. He has organized numerous international academic events including the Stanford-Leuphana Summer Academy series and European Summer/Winter Academies, fostering international scholarly exchange. His administrative roles include directing the Centre for Digital Cultures (since 2012) and previously leading the Digital Cultures Research Lab (2013-2018).
