Tim Waterman is a Professor of Landscape Theory at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. His academic roles include Inter-Programme Collaboration Director at UCL and former Vice-Chair of the Landscape Research Group (LRG). He serves as an advisor to the Centre for Landscape Democracy at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and the CETAPS Mapping Utopianisms research area, while also being a member of the scientific committee for the Barcelona Landscape Biennial.
His research spans landscape theory, utopian studies, social and political philosophy, urban geography, and design. Waterman explores how landscapes function as dialogic mediums for belonging and meaning-making, particularly in the context of climate change and colonialism. He is currently working on a tetralogy examining world-making, image-making, and taste-making imagination, with the first volume, Reworlding: Planetarity and Design Imaginaries, and his 2022 book, The Landscape of Utopia: Writings on Everyday Life, Taste, Democracy, and Design.

Waterman has co-authored and edited numerous collections, including the Routledge Handbook of Landscape and Food, and contributed to journals like Landscape Architecture Magazine and the Journal of Architecture. He mentors students and participates in lectures and events at UCL.
His academic background includes a PhD in Architecture by Published Work from the University of Westminster, a Master of Landscape Architecture, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has held teaching roles at Writtle University College, Kingston University, and the University of Greenwich.
