Dr. Tim Steffens serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at West Texas A&M University's Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, holding a joint appointment with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension as a rangeland management specialist.
His academic credentials include:
- B.S. in Agricultural Education from Tarleton State University (1982)
- M.S. in Animal Nutrition from Texas Tech University (1984)
- Ph.D. in Rangeland Ecosystem Science from Colorado State University (1994)
Dr. Steffens' research examines grazing management impacts on plant communities, soil health, watershed function, wildlife habitat, and livestock productivity. He pioneers integrated rangeland-livestock-cropping systems including direct crop harvesting by livestock and forage-finished meat production, with findings presented across western U.S. scientific and agricultural forums.
He actively contributes to the Society for Range Management as Texas Section Excellence in Rangeland Stewardship committee member, following prior service as State Section President and Advisory Council chair. His work leverages departmental facilities including the Nance Ranch Research Feedlot and Caviness Meat Science & Innovation Center.
