His academic home resides within the Department of Social Sciences, specifically the Sports Economics, Sport Management & Media research team.
His research spans four core domains:
- Spectator sports through applied behavioral economics
- Sports leagues via applied industrial economics
- Sports funding using applied public economics
- Sports participation in society through applied health and labor economics
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on sport economics applications, particularly examining how sports participation affects labor markets, how game uncertainty drives spectator demand, and how public expenditures on sports infrastructure influence community health outcomes. His work frequently appears in top economics and sports journals including Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization and Economic Inquiry.
Pawlowski maintains significant academic service roles including editorial board membership at European Sport Management Quarterly (since 2013), Journal of Sports Economics (since 2018), and Sports Economics Review (since 2022). He regularly serves as ad-hoc reviewer for prestigious journals like Nature–Scientific Reports and funding bodies including the German Research Foundation.
His research activities occur within the Institute of Sports Science's Research Department of Sports Medicine, where he collaborates with colleagues across sports psychology, biomechanics, and social sciences to advance interdisciplinary sports research.
