Professor Tim Norman is Head of the Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) School at the University of Southampton and Director of the UKRI MINDS Centre for Doctoral Training. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from University College London (1997) and has been a professor since 2009. His research focuses on multi-agent systems, AI safety, human-AI collaboration, and reinforcement learning. Norman has secured over £27M in external grants since 1999, including leadership roles in major initiatives like the UKRI MINDS CDT (£5.82M) and the NIS ITA alliance (£2.9M).
Education: BSc Electronic and Electrical Engineering (University of Wales, Swansea); PhD Artificial Intelligence (UCL). His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, with notable projects such as the Collaborative Intelligence Spaces toolkit influencing UK government decision-making systems. He has supervised numerous PhD students and received awards including the Best Abstract Spotlight (2021) at AAMAS-2021.
