Dr. Tim McCuddy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Memphis. He holds a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (2018). His research focuses on youth crime prevention, digital communication's impact on delinquency, school safety, and community crime prevention. He is affiliated with the Urban Affairs PhD program, the Memphis Applied Research and Community Action (MARCA) Institute, and the Center for the Advancement of Youth Development.
Dr. McCuddy’s work examines how schools, neighborhoods, and online interactions influence youth offending and victimization. He specializes in digital communication’s role in peer influence, delinquency, and intervention strategies. His recent awards include the 2023 Michael K. Harless Faculty Excellence Award, 2023 Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and 2024 Graduate Student Association Mentor Award.
His articles address topics such as online peer influence, gun reporting by students, and the consequences of exposure to community violence. He advocates for evidence-based prevention efforts to reduce youth crime and improve community safety. Dr. McCuddy collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to bridge academic research with practical community action.
