Tim Janz holds the position of Teaching Professor in the Theory Department at the Mount Royal University Conservatory. He earned a B.Mus. (Performance) from the University of Western Ontario and an M.Mus. (Composition) from the University of Calgary under Allan Bell. His academic journey includes studies at the Banff Centre and early career roles with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Banff Centre New Music Theatre Program.
Research & Creative Work: Janz's interests span the physics of sound, compositional decision-making, and performer interpretation dynamics. He explores historical performance practices on Baroque flute and actively composes/arranges music for groups like Prairie Ceilidh and Fine Blend salon trio. Recent scholarly focus includes potential PhD research on music's structural and temporal dimensions.
Teaching & Performance: Maintains a private lesson practice ($89/hour) while balancing Conservatory teaching with ongoing creative projects. His interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical studies with practical performance innovation.
