Dr Tim Holder is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Winchester since 2017. He holds dual professional accreditation as a BPS-chartered, HCPC-registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist and a BASES-accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist. With over 30 years of experience, he combines academic teaching with applied consultancy, supporting athletes and teams across elite, sub-elite, and recreational levels.
Education: PhD in Sport Psychology (1998). Prior academic roles include positions at University of Chichester, Canterbury Christ Church University, St. Mary’s University, and University of Central Lancashire, where he contributed to Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Sport and Exercise disciplines.
Research focuses on applied sport psychology consulting methodologies, practitioner expertise development, and team dynamics in high-pressure environments. His work spans observation techniques, adaptive intervention strategies, and strengths-based team approaches, informed by experiences at major championships including Olympic Games.
Publications emphasize practitioner insights and real-world applications, with recent contributions exploring observation in performance analysis and dynamic contextual challenges in sport psychology delivery.
